So What If My Parents Are Fat?!
Your suspicion may prove to be true, it runs in the family. Researchers have indicated that there is a high possibility that children who have obese parents are likely to grow as obese adults too. A recent study conducted by Danish researchers suggested that a strong case of obese children have been found to have obese parents as well. “Genetic influences have an important role in determining human fatness in adults, whereas the family environment alone has no apparent effect,” the study concluded. According to the same study, 80% of obese kids come from parents who are themselves obese, and a measly 14% of fat kids come from parents who have normal weights.
The same research showed, however, that fat parents who adopt children of normal weight don’t necessarily influence their adoptees, though one should be cautious in understanding this, for it does not mean that whether a person would be born fat is, like the color of one’s eyes and hair, determined at the moment of conception and there is no certainty that a person is really predisposed to fatness because of certain things in his environment.
While these studies are bad news to those who are battling the waistline, this study does not suggest that counteracting an inherited tendency to be fat is a losing battle. As Dr. Albert J. Stuckard of the University of Pennsylvania, the director of the study, declared in an interview, many people who have two fat parents, ones who face the highest genetic risk of obesity, had manage to take their weight off and kept it off. It is just a confirmation, therefore, that if people would work hard at losing weight and maintaining the undesirable loss, they will.
Just like the recent heated debates raging about whether homosexuality is genetic or influential, obesity can be both sides of the fence yet the individual himself, based on studies, can be the crucial change switch. Many offsprings begotten by a parent or both parents with an imbalance of the gender chromosomes had decisively done everything they could to live be “straight” and live straight lives, and succeeded. Take the case of cardiovascular disease. Though it could be a case of an unwanted legacy from one’s parents, it does not preclude one’s capacity to do everything he can to reduce risk factors like smoking and high-fat diet. On the same wavelength, one born to a family of plump people should take up the sword and wage war against those things that would induce a favorable climate of obesity. If one puts his mind to countering fatness, chances are that he will succeed. Yes, there is hope for those with the fat in their genes.
To prove this, Dr. Stuckard and his fellow researchers studied genetically obese mice and found that by simply increasing their activity, without diet intervention, prevented half of the rodents from getting fat, and greatly limited the weight of the other half. This indicates that certain body mechanisms that allowed a person to survive in times past work against him in modern times where food is in abundance. This indicates that those with the genetic tendency towards being fat back then were the ones that survived the rough times when food became scarce, while the others didn’t make it. With an oversupply of high-calorie food and machines to do work today, man’s wonderful adaptive mechanisms simply make him fat.

South Beach Diet: What Is It?
South beach diet gained popularity when it became one of the alternatives to weight loss. Originally, it was not indicated to be used for Weight Loss since it was merely designed for the patients of Dr. Arthur Agatston of the prevention of heart disease. The diet plan was made together with dietician Marie Almon. Because it was an alternative to low fat approaches it was then used for the purpose of weight loss.
What are the phases of the south beach diet?
There are three phases of the diet and from the first to the third; it is little by little becoming liberal. The first phase will be for two weeks. Elimination of sugar, processed carbohydrates, fruits and other high-glycemic vegetables is the main goal of phase 1. This is to reduce and eliminate the hunger cycle therefore will promise to lose weight. Phase 2 is the re introduction of fruits and vegetables and also whole grains. After phase two you will end with phase 3 but it will be for a lifetime because it will be a maintenance phase.
Phase 1
South beach diet phase 1 will be for 14 days. This phase of the diet is the strictest phase because there is a list of foods not to eat. The main purpose of the phase is to eliminate your cravings with sugars and starches. So this means that you will give up on pasta, bread, fruits and flavored yogurts. After completing the phase 1 of the diet, you are assured of a significant amount of Weight Loss in just a short period of time. Belly fat is surely eliminated or reduced with as soon as this phase has been completed.
Phase 2
Phase two is not as strict as the phase 1. The eating guideline to phase 2 are as follows:
Fruits: Fruits were completely eliminated in the earlier phase of the south beach diet but in phase 2, you can eat a serving of a fruit (daily) except for fruits such as banana, canned fruits, juices, pineapples, raisins, and watermelon.
Dairy: You can have one and one half serving of low fat milk or yogurt. This phase has the principle of strictly-no-ice cream.
Starches: only one serving a day is allowed for whole grain, multi grain breads, high fiber cereals, whole wheat pasta, sweet potato or brown rice. Starches are completely brought back in the phase 2 where it was strictly not permitted in the phase 1.
Vegetables: vegetables such as beets, carrots, corn or potatoes should not be consumed in phase 2 because of the starchy and sugary properties of these vegetables.
Phase 3
In phase 3 of the diet, you will decide on your own if what you should eat, what you should not eat, what must be cut down, what must be increased. I am telling this because this phase is already the phase wherein you will maintain your weight into a healthy weight. If you successfully finished phase 1 and 2, you have already learned all those which you need to undergo the maintenance phase.
South Beach Diet is a promising way to lose weight but is also a difficult way for a person without discipline and determination. If you want to lose weight, earn it the hard way because in the end when you are again gaining weight, you will remind yourself that you have gone through a tough way to reach a healthy body. A success earned the hard way will last for a lifetime.

Soy: A Great Meat Substitute
Meat-lovers might be wondering how vegetarians could survive without the protein of steaks or barbecue that they enjoy so much. The secret might just be the presence of soy products like tofu in the market that are excellent sources of protein and can totally replace meat in one’s diet. Soybeans are highly versatile and can be processed into different food products – they can be made to taste just like meat, too.
Soybean (Glycine max) is a legume that originates from the eastern part of Asia. These plants can easily adapt to soil conditions and can be harvested after at least 80 days. Coming from China, it was introduced to Japan and then had spread to other Asian nations. Planting soybeans is considered very important in crop rotation because it fixes the nitrogen level of the soil.
Many food and industrial products are manufactured from soybeans. Some of the edible forms of soybean are tofu, soymilk, soy sauce, natto, tempeh and bean paste, most of which are highly favored in Asian countries (although the main producer of this crop is the United States). The oil from soybean, aside from being used for culinary purposes, is also used in paints and biodiesel. Soybean meal or the remains of a soybean once the oil is taken out, are then used as animal feeds.
Soybean products like tofu can be eaten in place of meats, which is really great for vegetarians. It has enough protein and very versatile when it comes to culinary uses. Because it is quite bland in itself, you can experiment with different dishes that will give it flavor.
Soybeans contain lots of nutrients including calcium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, potassium, copper, manganese, folic acid, zinc, vitamin E and molbydenum. It is also low in fat and cholesterol while being a great protein source. Other compounds in soybean are isoflavones and lecithin. Products made from soybean can help in digestion because of its dietary fiber content and omega-3 which is good for the heart.
Aside from being a good substitute for meats, soybean can also be beneficial for the bones. The isoflavones it contains can help in preventing damage to bone tissues. Eating soybean products is also proven to reduce the level of bad cholesterol (LDL) in the blood that may just prevent occurrence of cardiovascular diseases. This is because soybeans have saponins and isoflavones that emulsifies the fat, thus preventing artery-related complications that lead to such diseases.
Soybean’s pure oil is often used to treat skin problems like bed sores and psoriasis, because of its lecithin content. Likewise, eating soybeans can contribute to a healthier skin due to the linoleic acids in them, which can cure eczema.
One of the components of soybean, lecithin, is known to boost the brain and immunity and relieve overall fatigue. Lecithin can increase the blood’s gamma globulin that will aid the immune system in countering infections.
There have been issues regarding the safety of soybeans for consumption, especially for children. Infants should not be fed soymilk as much as possible for breast milk is still the best food source for them. People with thyroid problems or sensitive to yeast should also avoid eating food products with soy. Allergic reactions to soybean have also been reported so product manufacturers include them in the label as possible allergen.

Soy Foods You Can Enjoy
Soybeans are an ideal ingredient to any food product because of its high protein content and cholesterol reducing properties. They are highly versatile and can acquire flavors because they are basically tasteless in themselves, making them a perfect base for food processing. It was also discovered that it is a rich source of edible oil (20%) and fertilizer.
The major producer of soybean crops, the United States, uses them mainly as animal feed that is the by-product of extracting oil from the seeds. Soybean oil is used in different processed foods or sold like vegetable oil. In addition, the oil from them can also be used in automobiles as biodiesel.
There are tons of other uses for soybeans in different industries. They are used in manufacturing inks, resins, cosmetics, crayons and even fabric. Recently, they have also been used in fermentation of vodka. The following are food products available in the market today that are made from soybeans:
-
Soy sauce. This is a dark liquid that is used as a condiment or to flavor dishes because of its saltiness. It is made from soybeans that are salted and then mixed with water and toasted wheat.
-
TVP. Textured Vegetable Protein became popular years ago as a meat substitute. Aside from being a great source of protein and dietary fiber, it has very little fat because TVP comes from the soybeans that have undergone oil extraction. You can use this as an additive to meat recipes because it nicely absorbs flavors. It is available in flakes or chunks but you have to add water first so you can incorporate it in dishes.
-
Tempeh. Made from soybeans with grains and bacteria, it develops a stronger taste than tofu that is considered meaty by others. The beans are boiled then incubated for about a whole day so it can ferment into something resembling cake. It can be compared to tofu though tempeh has considerably more protein and more solid. Tempeh can be used in many dishes that call for meat or to substitute for meat entirely.
-
Tofu. It is probably the most common soybean product available in the market. Tofu is a cake-like product that has white color and can vary in texture. It can be used with lots of different Asian dishes or marinated and deep fried as it is. The more firm tofu is used in stir fried dishes while the silken tofu is for dishes that have sauces. Tofu is made from soyabeans that are first turned into milk by crushing and heating them. Then the mixture is thickened through the use of calcium chloride to achieve the solid consistency.
-
Miso. This is made from a mixture of soybeans, salt, water and wheat or rice. It is then left to ferment in vats for a few years (the fermentation time varies). Miso is highly popular in Japan and is used in soups and sauces or as condiment. Just be careful in taking too much as it is high in sodium.
-
Soy milk. Soybeans are soaked in water and strained to make soymilk. Compared to cow’s milk, soy milk has no cholesterol and contains little fat, yet still maintains a good amount of protein. This is especially a nice substitute for people who are lactose intolerant for soymilk can be fortified with vitamins and essential minerals. Most of the soy milk that are produced is meant for consumption of infants. There are also soy cheese and soy yogurt made from this soymilk.
-
Edamame. The unripe beans of soy that are boiled and salted so they can be eaten as a snack is known as edamame. And because they are very popular as a healthy alternative to junk foods, it is being produced commercially even in Western countries under the name ‘green vegetable soybeans’. Raw soybeans should not be eaten outright by humans because they are toxic. They must be cooked first, through boiling for example, so certain compounds that are poisonous for humans can be destroyed.

Stay Healthy In Winter with Winter Exercises

fun-exercises-for-weight-loss
You may be in a bad mood just thinking about surviving the long winter, but you don’t have to consider it as the unhealthiest time of the year. For one, this is just a perfect time to simply relax, stay indoors and do some exercises for you to recharge for the next summer. Who knows, you could use some little time assessing your Health while enjoying the comforts of home.
Here are some of the exercises to make sure you still have that healthy body despite the drag brought about by the long, cold winter.
If you can help it, try eliminating your sleep debt. Aim for an average of six-and-a-half hours of sleep, as compared to the seven to nine hours a night, as this would raise some sort of awareness to your sleep in order for your to maintain your Health and well-being. Since we normally sleep more during the winter, this habit will take some time before it gets in to the system. “It’s perfectly natural to adopt hibernating habits when the weather turns cold,” says Jessica, a spokesperson of Sleep Council. “Use the time to catch up,” she says further.
If you’re an average milk drinker, try drinking more. Chances are you will likely get 80% cold during winter time and your milk drinking will spell the difference as this would keep your immune system in good condition. Cheese, yoghurt, fromage frais and other milk and dairy products are a good companion during the long cold stretch, since most of these foods are rich in protein, calcium and vitamins.
They say variety is the spice of life. You can still make do with what you have despite the blandness of weather. Don’t let the winter days numb in to doing something that would perhaps circulate your blood with the activities that you’re going to do. Ice-skate all your fats outside your body as you sweat it out in the snow. You might be surprised that merely doing the chores inside the house has its own use after all. Washing the dishes, cleaning your baby’s room, fixing the car in the garage are some of the things, the “little exercises”. That keeps your mind and your body occupied. It helps you control your weight, boost your immune system and at times break away from all the tensions you have gone through all year.
Prepare your breakfast. After a long sleep perhaps, forcing your way through the kitchen can flex your nerves and stretch your muscles better than just staying buried in your bed. Porridge is perfect in the morning. And because it is starchy and rich in fiber, it will give you all the energy you want for the rest of the day. If you prefer the classic way of eating breakfast, oats could be quite a compliment since it also contains some vital vitamins and minerals perfect for a cold, sluggish weather. You can also do some experiment by adding dried apricots, raisins, or a sliced banana in your porridge. Anything just to make your winter some sort of a therapy to experiment new ways to recharge and refresh your body from the daily cold.

Strawberry: A Powerful Fruit in Your Diet

Delicious Strawberry
There are four powerful fruits which are loaded with anti oxidants and fiber but low in calories. These fruits can become your best friend in your journey towards a healthy body and achieving a healthy lifestyle. Kiwi, cranberries, blueberries and strawberries are for me the four powerful fruits. Let us go over why strawberry is included as one of the four most powerful fruits.
Are you fond of eating sweets but does not want to gain more weight and is not favor in the increase of blood sugar levels? There is an answer to your wants but will not either give you weight gain but you can even lose weight. A cup of fresh strawberries contain only 45 calories. Among all the nutrients and minerals it contains, calorie is the least. How is that so?
Calorie content of strawberries is low making it a fruit good for cholesterol reduction. Pectin is the enzyme present in strawberries which help in the reduction of cholesterol because it is a soluble fiber. Soluble fibers are not directly absorbed by the stomach instead; it goes out of the body as a waste. When cholesterol is decreased, possibilities of heart diseases will be minimized and the body will become healthy.
Anti-oxidant Powerhouse
Strawberries are rich in vitamin c and antioxidants. Phenols which are present in strawberries in the form of anthocyanin and ellagitannins are of great help in the repair of damage cell structures caused by free radicals. These free radicals as we all know are destructive to the body organs especially to cells and tissues thus; diseases can be acquired when the damage of the radicals is not prevented and repaired.
Ability to decrease inflammation
Aside from having a decent amount of anti oxidant, the ability of phenols to reduce the activity of the enzyme cyclo-oxygenase, or COX which are causing several inflammations in different parts of the body. This is the reason why strawberries are consumed to reduced the risk of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, asthma, atherosclerosis, and cancer.
Weight loss capacity
There are three ways why strawberries are used for weight loss. One way is that strawberries have the ability to increase the production of hormones that will enhance metabolism and be able to suppress the appetite of the person. Another way is that it helps in the reduction of the rate of digestion of starchy food intake. When a person consumes a starchy meal, blood sugar levels increases and that is where strawberries would be of big help. The rise in blood sugar level is being suppressed by the strawberries therefore, diabetes mellitus will be avoided. The last way of strawberries to prevent weight gain is that it signals the weight reducing hormones to work properly.
Strawberry indeed is a power berry because of all the properties and enzymes it contains. Weight Loss capacity very helpful as well as the anti oxidants it contain needed for the promotion of a cancer free body and having a healthy immune system.
The next time you want to have snack, you go for fresh strawberries. Just remember not to overeat it because moderation in every food you consume and in everything you do will also give you the results you have desired for in the beginning of your journey to a healthy body.

Stroke and Obesity: Their Interrelationship

Staying Healthy
Obesity is like an epidemic disease these days that puts people into even graver danger as it progresses. It can pave the way for a number of other ailments to come in a person’s system, while the person most of the time, unknowingly continue his harmful lifestyle. And stroke is only one in the list of deadly diseases caused by being overweight.
Stroke can cause long-term damage to the nervous system or almost instantaneous death to a person. This medical condition ranks second worldwide when it comes to causes of death.
Stroke or cerebrovascular accident is characterized by the blockage of the brain’s blood supply, thus disabling certain functions of the brain. Such complications can result to loss of ability to move parts of the body or to speak. The first term to be used as a description for such condition is apoplexy. This blocking of the arteries are usually attributed to having high levels of cholesterol and high blood pressure. Although it can strike just about anyone, stroke is more likely to occur in people who are overweight as they are the ones who usually have the risk factors.
One type of stroke is the lack of blood supply to a particular part of the brain that results in the malfunctioning of that part. This is called ischemic stroke and can be caused by different instances: the general reduction of the body’s blood supply when someone is shocked; an embolus somewhere in the body; a blood clot in the brain area; or undetermined origin. On the other hand, hemorrhagic stroke is caused by blood leakage or accumulation within the skull or brain.
Symptoms of stroke are usually short-lived and can happen in a span of mere minutes. They are based on what region of the brain is concerned and sometimes will not be accompanied by headache. In hemorrhagic stroke, however, symptoms may include throbbing in the head because of the pressure associated with the blood accumulation in the brain. Other symptoms are pain in the chest area or difficulty in breathing.
There are a number of factors that can increase the chances of someone suffering a stroke attack. They include having high blood pressure, old age, diabetes, smoking, alcohol consumption, high cholesterol or previous incident of stroke. Typically, the risk factors of stroke concern one’s lifestyle and are highly modifiable such as taking drugs, not engaging in physical activities and unhealthy food choices. Illegal drugs like amphetamines and cocaine are not the only ones that can lead to stroke, simple medicines for colds or cough syrup when taken in excessive amounts can affect increase one’s risks of having stroke.
A person who suffered from a stroke is basically given medications to control hypertension and platelet production. Regarding the lost ability like speaking or walking due to damage in the brain, rehabilitation programs are employed so the patient can recover them, though it normally takes a considerable amount of time.
In spite of the myriad studies proving the connection of stroke and obesity, experts still have not proven that Weight Loss can lower the risk of having stroke. Moreover, being overweight can also cause high blood pressure or diabetes that are both linked with stroke. Nevertheless, it is still a best choice to opt out of cigarettes and alcohol while maintaining exercise and proper diet.

Sustainable Ways in Controlling Blood Sugar Levels

Staying healthy
For sure, you feel depressed and somehow hopeless when your doctor announced that you have diabetes as it would mean the end of your lavish cravings of sweets, the unhindered adventures with food and physical activities. On the other hand, many diabetic patients have continued to spread stories of courage on how they survived with the ailment. And yes, it is true. One must have the right attitude and knowledge to manage the ailment. Maintaining the ideal blood sugar level is the main goal that should be kept at all times. How, then, can we control blood sugar levels?
-
Low in carbohydrates. Keep a strict low-carb and low-sugar diet. One should know that carbohydrates with simple sugars will break down into glucose molecules once metabolized and will inevitably give rise to the body’s glucose levels. Thus, it is healthy to eat fewer carbohydrates and more fruits and vegetables that can produce other forms of sugar. Beans, fiber-enriched vegetables and fish are also recommended.
-
Healthy fats, less salt. Eat foods that contain healthy fats and less salt. Dairy products, processed foods and pork contain saturated fats that may block veins and other arteries. This may cause the circulatory system to overwork. A diabetic’s body should not be overworked by all means as one aspect has already been functioning abnormally. Fats with sodium and salt may also change the system. Junk foods and express foods should be avoided. Instead, go for food groups containing natural oils found in legumes and lean meat. If you are a meat-lover, choose lean cuts or try eating beef and other varieties of red meat.
-
Normal weight and sugar level. Monitor your weight and your sugar levels. Because diabetics now cannot normally metabolize glucose molecules, the sudden rise of glucose levels can create corresponding negative complications to the body like hyperglycemia, the state of having extremely high blood glucose. It can also cause damage to other organs like the heart and kidneys. As much as possible, the affected individual should be two pounds lower than the normal weight. Diabetics are also advised to have glucose level readings every now and then.
-
Physical activeness. Stay physically-active but avoid situations that can cause stress. When stressed and tired, the body will release cortisol hormones that may eventually affect the production of glucose levels to combat stress. Do activities that are fun and promote aerobic activity. Short walks, gardening and a light golf game will do. Relaxation exercises like yoga and old-fashioned stretching can also help. Be careful in doing strenuous activities as some people with diabetes may even pass out when fatigued.
-
Regular in-take of meds. Religiously take your diabetes medicines and other prescribed food supplements. Drugs are prescribed to keep sugar levels in a normal range. You should take them religiously to avoid complications. Also, consult your doctor in case you want to take food supplements that boost your immune system and energy levels.

Lose Your Weight Through Swimming

Stayimg Healthy
Diets, tedious exercises and many other ways to lose weight are always mentioned today in blogs, articles, newspapers, magazines and many other forms of publication. Apple s or grapefruit for Weight Loss are always written in articles claiming that Weight Loss is possible with this fruits. Yes, with no doubt, apples, grapefruits and other fruits are effective in losing weight. But wait; there are still other means to lose weight. Have anybody heard that swimming is an ultimate physical activity for losing weight efficiently and effectively? Let us go over it in the next few paragraphs.
Swimming is low impact activity and is fun to do especially if you love to swim. Do you wonder why all the swimmers out there have a healthy body? It is because with swimming, calories are burned easily. If you swim about 30 minutes a day, you will burn about 350 calories. This is the same with a one hour brisk walking or slow jogging. It has been shown that swimming provides more chances of burning calories than other physical activities. Burning more calories will tend to increase the chances of losing weight for an obese person.
Overall body is being exercised when swimming. This is the reason why it is great for losing weight because you can actually burn the same fat in all other parts of the body unlike when you are walking or jogging; only the lower part of the body is actually burning fats more than the upper part. With swimming, you can personalize what you do. If you are using walking or jogging for your lower part, then try to enhance the burning of fats in the upper part with swimming. Front crawl swimming will give extra effort to your upper body such as the arm.
To convince you more on the burning of more fat when swimming, let us compare the principle of the weight training which is using weight lifting or investing in the resistance exerted by the muscles to build long and leaner muscles. Remember that the leaner and toned the muscles are, the more it aids in fat burning since muscles are responsible for fat burning. This principle is indeed the same with what is done with swimming. Whenever you swim, you are fighting resistance in the water and that is the reason why losing more calories is effective in swimming.
The natural resistance the water offers is a big advantage because you only exert a smaller effort than walking. Swimming is much enjoyable than jogging because even if you don’t feel the heavy perspiration you are sure that overall Health of the body is at stake. Strength of the muscles of both hands and legs during swimming are the ones responsible for better burning of fat.
Losing weight is not only at stake with swimming. Swimming is a great cardiovascular workout making it healthy exercise for the body not to acquire different cardiovascular disease particularly heart diseases and hypertension. Because the overall body is being worked out with swimming, it does offer many Health benefits to achieve overall health.
There are some claims I’ve encountered online saying that swimming is ineffective with weight lose but this are untrue. For as long as you know the effects of swimming towards your body, you don’t have to worry about the disadvantages claimed by others. To prove them wrong, better start swimming today to achieve the weight and the healthy body you want (especially if you are overweight).

Teenage Health

Staying healthy
Are you among those teenagers who are always bombarded by your parents of what to eat, what to do and several annoying things? I also feel what you feel because I experienced the same things when I was a teen. There are several things you must know about Health that sometimes or most of the times your parents are right. Even if you don’t want to do what they say, it is for your own good, believe me. So, here are some of the important reminders about your most hated topic; your health.
Puberty is considered one of the hardest stage of a person’s life. Why? This is the time when you experience major changes physically, emotionally and sometimes spiritually. You get to experience your first menstruation, your first pubic hair, your voice becoming more mature and many other annoying but amazing changes. To manage all of these changes may it be physical or emotional, you need to have a healthy body and mind. Here are some of the tips were you can utilize during your journey to a healthy body and mind to cope with changes that are happening in your adolescence.
Eat healthy foods
For the -nth time in your life, your parents always brag you about eating real foods, stop drinking soda , eat this and that and several more. As I have said a while ago, your parents are not that persistent if what they are talking about is not for your own good. Yes, they are right, stop drinking soda and drink eight glasses of water a day. This is for your skin hydration and to move your metabolism in a faster and normal way. As they say, eat real foods. Eat a healthy balanced diet which composed of fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetable offer a decent amount of fiber that will make you healthy inside and out. It will improve your metabolism for you not to gain weight and it will also give you the nutrients and minerals your body needs for proper functioning.
Don’t skip breakfast
Don’t ever try to skip breakfast! That is common to teenagers. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it will provide you with the energy you need for the whole morning for your chores and errands. Skipping breakfast means that you will over eat your next meal. Overeating is bad for your Health since gaining weight will be the main effect.
Eat in portions
Instead of starving yourself, try to do portion eating. Eat at least five to six small meals a day. Teenagers are known to be overly active and eating sometimes is not an important thing to do. This is wrong. When you eat, you give your body the energy it needs for proper functioning. Moderate eating and eating in portion will make you stronger and healthier.
Exercise regularly
Teenagers are fond of playing computers; sitting the whole day watching television or sometimes sleeping the whole because of night parties. These activities are purely sedentary and even if the body voluntarily burns fats, it is not capable of burning all without your effort to do something you’re your body to burn the entire excess calorie intake. Do a 30-minute to one-hour exercise a day and you’re good. It may be done on gyms or simply brisk walking or jogging will do. Aerobics, swimming or biking are also activities which teens could enjoy in group or alone.
Sleep regularly
Also remember to sleep at least eight hours every night to keep your body recharge from the different activities it will again perform tomorrow.
There you go. Follow those simple tips and you will be able to cope with the major changes in your body and mind. Enjoy being an adolescent, it only comes once in a lifetime.

Apples a Day Keep the Fats Away
Have you heard of the popular phrase “3 apples a day makes the fat away”. Indeed, apple is very useful when it comes to losing weight. It contains not only enzymes which makes fat burning process a faster one but it also contain some dietary fiber good for digestion. Let us go over the properties of apple, why is it recommended for weight lose, an apple diet plan and of course the pros and cons of the diet.
Properties of apple
Apples like pears (the same family) are fruits designed for weight loss. As mentioned earlier, the properties which makes apple useful in Weight Loss are low calorie food, high in fiber and enzymes. Apart from being a flavorful fruit which is loved by babies to cure their diarrhea and dysentery. The apple skin has the most dietary fiber that is why the skin should not be removed when you eat. The soluble fiber, pectin are used for lowering the bad cholesterol or the LDL level of the body which could cause many diseases related to the heart. Nathocyanins which are classified as the antioxidant present in apples also helps in lowering the chances of having heart ailments and of course cancer.
Apple properties
This is an example of the apple diet. For breakfast, eat some cheese omelet and a cup of cooked oatmeal. Don’t forget your apple. If you want to have a morning snack, try one half cup of cottage cheese and one half cup of nonfat yogurt. For lunch, one half cup of brown rice, grilled chicken breast and two cups of broccoli and your apple. Try a cappuccino shake for your afternoon snack. For dinner, eat your apple, grilled salmon and green salad.
Reminder: Eat your apple before meals so that you will be able to be given the chance to enhance burning of calories and to provide some sort of stomach fullness preventing overeating, in that case.
Pros and Cons
Like any other diets, the apple fruit diet has its own version of the benefits and the drawbacks. For benefits, the reduction of overeating is achieved because of the burning process of the apple when consumed before meals. Reduction of cholesterol levels (due to soluble fibers) will be good for the overall Health of the person. Antioxidants contained by apple will prevent the body from having diseases such as cancers, stroke and heart ailments. Muscle mass is more promoted by the lean fat foods consumed in the diet. A problem of nutritional deficit is not a problem because the meals are combined fruits and vegetables and also protein and carbohydrates.
For the drawback, the diet is not intended for all of us, like any other diet, one is effective on you while the others are ineffective for you. Dietary boredom can happen because there is no way that all of the dieter will follow a boring meal plan. Another is that dieters can get tired of eating apples every meal. The diet doe eliminate many foods and is not giving allowances for you to consume other foods.
Every diet has a promise of weight lose for everybody. But dieters are not cautious every time they want to lose weight. It is still essential for you to study the effects, read forums and journals before leaping into a particular diet. After all, it is you who will decide and make the most out of your decision to achieve the healthy and fit body.

The Morning Banana Diet

Staying Healthy
Sumiko and Hitoshi Watanabe were the creators of the famous Japanese diet; the banana diet for weight loss. Hitoshi has a background in preventive medicine while his wife Sumiko is a pharmacist. Since the day the diet was promoted in a social networking site mixi, it became popular not only in Japan but in the whole world. Today it is being utilized by many dieters out there aiming for weight loss.
Let us go over the properties of bananas as well as the promise of Weight Loss of this diet. Advantages and disadvantages will also be discussed in this article.
What are the properties of banana which makes it a fruit for weight loss?
One of the properties of bananas which make it good for Weight Loss is that it contains an insoluble carbohydrate commonly called as ‘resistant starch’. Resistant starch is one of the reasons why several weight managements are successful since it enhances the blockage of carbohydrate absorption. Lipid oxidation or the ability to burn fat is also a property of the banana which is desirable for weight loss. Bananas are loaded with enzymes which will facilitate a better digestion and a better metabolism favorable for weight loss. But these enzymes are only present in the fresh or raw state of the fruit. So better consume fresh one and uncooked banana fruits for a better chance in weight loss.
How is banana diet done?
Banana morning diet is a very simple diet. Why? You will not follow a monotonous meal over and over; instead, you will just eat a banana over breakfast and lukewarm water. The rest of the day’s meals are not reduced rather consumed and for your reward you can even have snacks.
This is an example of a banana diet plan:
Morning:
Eat a banana or more than if you think you are not yet satisfied but make sure that your fullness will not make it a discomfort for you. Remember to consume only fresh and in raw state. Never use cooked or processed bananas. If you are not still satisfied after your banana, you can eat rice ball after two to three hour; oatmeal also can do.
Lunch and Dinner:
Eat your normal lunch and dinner but there are some restrictions. There are no rules for the amount or type of foods you eat but successful dieters reported that cutting down their rice intake and substituting their fried foods can hasten weight loss. But don’t starve yourself because starvation is not the solution to the problems regarding weight loss. It is also important to take note that there should be no more meals after 8 pm. This explains the fact that you must give your body four hours after meal before going to sleep. Don’t try to have desserts because sweet foods are avoided in this diet.
Water only
No other beverages are allowed with this diet. Most of the meals require water especially for the breakfast; a banana with lukewarm (room temp water). Drinking the water should be done moderately and not like you are flushing all your foods when you drink.
Sweet snacks
Snacks like chocolate, cookies and other sweet foods are allowed only after 3pm. Beware of ice cream, donuts and potato chips.
Exercise
Perform exercise if you like to do so but if you are just doing it for the sake that you are in a Weight Loss program, better not force your body. You can just walk few times each day but never force your body to do physical activities if your body does not feel good about exercise.
The banana diet is a promising but in every diet, there are drawbacks. Apparently, not all diets work the same. A diet may work on you but will not work on others. Another drawback is that, it does not encourage healthy exercise habits. Lastly, it can encourage overeating easily. But all in all, the diet has claimed many testimonials before about their success using it.

The cabbage soup diet is aimed to be done in just seven days. After seven days, you are assured of weight loss. It is a lot effective for a short term Weight Loss but it is not to be utilized for long term purposes of weight loss. The name of the diet was originally from a hospital (Sacred Heart’s Hospital) to motivate the surgery patients to lose weight. Let us review the different advantages and disadvantages of the diet as well as the recipe for the cabbage soup which will be used for the seven days diet.
Advantages of the diet include a rapid weight loss. The diet is just for seven days and it is a good kick off to a moderate diet. Some say that they enjoy the soup. Others enjoy the freedom of eating the fruits they want.
Drawbacks of the diet include complaints from the dieters that the soup is bland. Some dieters said that the 7days diet is worth it even though the feelings they felt while in the diet was unusual. Another disadvantage of the diet is that you can’t use it for long term and prepare yourself for some nutrition deficiencies during the seven day diet.
Diet Plan
Day 1: Eat all fruits you want except banana. Together with fruits, eat your home made cabbage soup. If you want to drink juice, make it unsweetened and lots of water.

Day5: This day is called the beef and tomato day. Eat at least ten to twenty ounces of beef and consume up to six tomatoes. For your soup, you can have it at least once. Baked or grilled chicken can be an alternative to beef but be sure to remove the skin. Broiled fish could also be substituted for the beef.
Day6: Beef again and vegetables for this day. You can eat as much beef and indulged in as many green leafy vegetables you want to eat. Remember to eat the cabbage soup at least once. Still no eating of baked potatoes.
Day7: The last day of the diet lets you eat brown rice and vegetables. Have a drink with unsweetened fruit juices and don’t forget your soup for at least once this day/

The Cabbage Soup Diet

cabbage
For people who are trying to lose weight, cabbage soup diet is not new. Surprisingly, no one wants to own the cabbage soup diet. Until now, the origin of this popular diet is still unknown. But with various versions that spread on the web, different claims have been made like losing 4 kilos in just a week and that the cabbage soup per se can burn the stored fats.
Cabbage soup diet
Usually dubbed as a fad diet, cabbage soup diet is not advisable to last for more than a week as it can cause severe malnutrition and more Health complications. Although it can possibly brought quick loss of weight, the soup’s recipe is viewed by some as high in sodium and offers little protein that can result to the dieter feeling weak. Drinking alcohol or coffee is not allowed; only fruit juices (without sugar) and plain water.
How to make cabbage soup?
Cabbage soup recipe can be made through the following steps: In a large pot, sauté 6 large onions, 2 green peppers and 1 bunch celery until the vegetables are tender. Then add 1/2 of the cabbage head as well as 12 cups of water with 1 pack of dry onion soup mix, 1-2 cubes of bouillon and desired seasonings. Cook the soup until it reached the tenderness you prefer. Lastly, toss in 2 cans of tomatoes. You can alter the seasonings in the soup for each day from plain salt and pepper, garlic and parsley, soy sauce to curry powder so as to avoid monotony.
The diet plan
Day 1 : Cabbage soup, fruits (with the exception of bananas)
Day 2 : Cabbage soup, vegetables with 1 baked potato (added with butter)
Day 3 : Cabbage soup, fruit and vegetables (excluding bananas and potatoes)
Day 4 : Cabbage soup, 8 pieces of bananas with as much skimmed milk as desired
Day 5 : Cabbage soup, 10 oz of beef with a maximum of 6 tomatoes
Day 6 : Cabbage soup, as much beef and vegetables (excluding potatoes) as desired
Day 7 : Cabbage soup, brown rice and vegetables (excluding potatoes)
Some positive feedbacks from dieters include having lost significant weight quickly and commenting that the soup is tasty. On the other hand, others who tried this cabbage soup diet complained feeling disoriented and weak as well as losing focus throughout the day. Moreover, it gets pretty boring which leads to people having a hard time going through the diet each day. Another downside is the soup preparation entails too much time and has undesirable side-effects like gas. At the end of the day, it does not really provide a long-term solution to weight loss.
Many people who want to lose weight at once are lured by the promise of the cabbage soup diet. But many skeptics argued that this drastic loss of weight is due to simple water loss and not fat. The lack of calories (not to mention lack of carbohydrates, protein or fat intake) because of the strict menu can starve the body and slow down the metabolism. This can bring more harm than benefit because it sends a message to the body to store fat for future use. After the diet’s seven days, people may or may not lose weight but the bottom line here is the dieter has practiced self control and learned the value of healthy food choices.

The Complications of Obesity
Nowadays, obesity is becoming a serious Health problem in almost all nations. More and more cases of obesity are reported daily. As the number of overweight people is increasing, the number of different serious illnesses created by being overweight is also increasing. Here are some of the complications that are caused by obesity.
Heart problems
So much fat in the body will complicate different body systems which will result in malfunctioning of the organs or parts of the body. The heart is mostly affected when a person is obese. Why? There are a lot of factors why the heart is affected when gaining weight. Overweight will result into the reduction of elasticity of the blood vessels as well as the increase of heart rate. Increase in blood pressure occurs when there is more pressure due to the increasing amount of blood circulating in the body. The increasing amount of blood came from high demand of oxygen and nutrients of the fatty tissues which were actually fat deposits. When gaining weight, insulin levels in the body increases. Insulin is responsible for sodium and water retention thereby increasing the pressure of blood into the arteries.
Diabetes
Another complication of obesity is developing the disease called diabetes mellitus. There are two kinds of diabetes; hereditary diabetes or the type I and the type II which is acquired due to lifestyle. For this scenario, sedentary activities and unhealthy foods are examples of lifestyle which develops the type II. As mentioned earlier, insulin plays an important role in the fat deposition. Insulin is the one responsible in controlling blood sugar, therefore, so much fats in deposited in the body will cause the blood sugar to be resistant to insulin. Insulin resistance increases blood sugar which in turn will cause a person to develop diabetes. Later on, after having diabetes, eyes, kidneys, or the heart will also be affected.
Atherosclerosis
Another complication of obesity is the fatty deposits in the blood vessels or commonly known as atherosclerosis. There are two kinds of cholesterol which the blood transports into the body. LDL is the bad cholesterol while HDL is the good cholesterol. If a person is overweight, LDL is more concentrated than HDL. When the levels of LDL increases it means that there will be more deposit of cholesterol into the blood vessel. Cholesterol build up in the blood vessels will be harder for the blood to flow causing a decreased blood flow. Decreased blood flow will complicate the overall functioning of the circulatory system. Heart disease and stroke will be the complications of fat deposition into the blood vessels.
Osteoarthritis
Joint problems are also complications of weight gain or obesity. Osteoarthritis is a joint disease caused by obesity. Normal loads on the knee, hip and lower back are increased when gaining extra weight; therefore, increased pressure will be responsible in the immediate failure of cartilage to work properly. Breakdown of cartilage will result into stiffness and pain.
Gout is another disease wherein obesity is one of the factors of the development of disease. Increased uric acid is the problem why gout strikes. With overweight, increasing amount of uric acid strikes and crystals are deposited in joint causing it to be inflamed. Inflamed joints will cause pain and will later on cause arthritis.
There are still many complications which is caused by excessive fat. Excess fat elimination should be prioritized to stay away from diseases in the future.

Staying Healthy
The Different Heart Diseases
Generally, almost all people know heart complications as they account for most of the deaths in the world nowadays. They are usually caused by high blood pressure, high levels of cholesterol, other related Health problems or even just a poor lifestyle consisting of eating more of the wrong foods and having less physical activity. Meanwhile, there are also cases where the heart complication is congenital or already present since the individual’s birth.
Obesity can lead to various diseases, some are even lethal, that include those diseases concerning the heart. Increasing the risk is the fact that bad cholesterol is high in people who are overweight. In some countries, heart disease is the primary cause of death.
To better understand how the circulatory system works, you might need some overview of the specifics about the concerned organ, the heart. It is the one responsible for pumping blood throughout our body and works together with the lungs to enrich the blood with oxygen. The heart is divided into two sides; one side is for receiving blood that needs oxygen and the other for releasing blood that is already oxygen-rich. (There are four valves that ensure the blood is moving in the right way: aortic, mitral, pulmonary and tricuspid valves.) This circulation of blood is what keeps our whole body nourished as nutrition and oxygen travels from different organs through the blood. What keep the heart beating is the electrical impulses traveling through the ventricles.
Any disease regarding the heart or blood vessels is called cardiovascular disease. A common example of this is atherosclerosis or the buildup of fatty plaques in the arteries. There are many types of heart diseases that are categorized based on the cause of the disease or what certain parts of the circulatory system is involved.
Cardiopathy or the different heart diseases include the enlargement of the heart because of too much work and congestive heart failure that results in decreased blood supply.
Failing to supply enough blood circulation to the surrounding tissues and the heart itself is called coronary heart disease. Chest pains and heart attacks are symptoms of coronary heart disease which is the accumulation of plaques in the artery walls.
The heart muscle disease or cardiomyopathy is the malfunctioning of the actual heart muscle (myocardium) because of different factors. Moreover, people who have this particular disease have higher risk of dying due to cardiac arrest. The two types of cardiomyopathy are extrinsic and intrinsic (the weakening of the myocardium itself).
Another type is the ischaemic heart disease where the problem in the heart results in low supply of blood to different organs.
Congestive cardiac failure or simply heart failure is where the ability of the heart muscles to pump blood through the body is disabled, thus impairing the rest of the body as well.
The kind of heart problem that roots from having hypertension is called hypertensive heart disease. There are certain effects from this ailment, and some of which are coronary heart disease, heart failure and cardiomyopathy.
Inflammatory heart disease refers to the myocardium or its surrounding tissue being inflamed. If the inflammation is in the muscle of the heart itself, it is called myocarditis while endocarditis is the inflammation of the inner part or the heart valves.

The Dirt on Losing Weight and Crash Diets
Losing weight is considered to be one of the greatest battles that we have to face in life.
Gaining a few pounds, especially during the holidays,
is much easier than losing what was gained.
Due to intense desire to shed off the extra pounds,
many people would prefer to go on a crash diet.
For them, they think that this is the best and fastest way of losing weight.
Here, they would completely stop eating or eat very minimal foods such as crackers and water.
It sounds just fine. However, if you have lost weight in crash diet immediately,
you would also gain back weight immediately.
Gaining back all the weight you have lost is just one of the problems encountered during a crash diet.
The reason behind such phenomenon is that, once the human body has stopped eating or has encountered a minimal intake of food, the metabolism, eventually, slows down.
Such slowing down of the human body’s metabolism makes it hard for the body to burn fat when it takes food again.
A lot of times the weight will be doubled and will be even harder to lose.
It is really not beneficial to go on a crash diet.
You will definitely lose weight but you will also gain it all back in triple fold.
Here are some tips on how you can lose weight without going on a crash diet:
Just cut down on your food intake.
You do not need to entirely wipe the food out of our system since you will only be depriving your body of nutrients,
making it hard for the body to digest well.
When your digestive system goes haywire, there is, definitely, a tendency for your metabolism to go slow.
A slow metabolism will mean that you will have a bigger chance of putting on weight.
Cut out the junk.
Your body will thank you if you trim down the junk food.
Eat more healthy foods.
Pile up on the veggies and fruits.
Every time you are hungry, instead of munching some junk foods, grab an apple or a carrot stick instead of crackers.
Drink loads of water.
You will feel full and your digestive system will improve.
You will be able to flush out the toxins and fecal remains.
All of these would improve your metabolism and would allow you to lose weight faster.
Exercise.
Your diet will work best with some good old exercise.
Take the time out to run around the block.
If you have no time to go to the gym or run around the block, then make time to at least walk around.
Instead of using your car or the bus for short distances, take the time to enjoy the breeze.
Walk around town and burn calories at the same time.
Crash diets are indeed helpful if you really want to just lose all that weight instantly.
But remember that if you undergo a crash diet, you will just gain all the weight back again.
You will lose the weight, but gain it again as your metabolism slows down big time.
You will lose nutrients and your body will not be able to function well.
Aside from that, your Health will deteriorate and your body might suffer along the way.
Your body will get weaker and you will not feel energized and charged.
So if you really want to lose weight, do it the right way.

The Effectiveness of Lamaze Breathing

- Staying Healthy
Labor and delivery, especially for first time mothers, can be the traumatic. If for nothing else than that, many of them haven’t learned how to manage the pain through breathing. Patterned breathing techniques called Lamaze breathing are used by teachers in a child birth class to address this problem.
People commonly think of the “hee, hee, hoo” fast breathing where the oxygen is forced into the blood when they hear the term “patterned breathing” for laboring mothers.
This is just one of the many Lamaze breathing techniques. But this is not the same as hyperventilation or rapid breathing which makes one dizzy and increases anxiety.
Lamaze also teaches deep breathing techniques that are helpful in relaxing the body and keeping the laboring mother calm which helps her in focusing on the delivery without needing pain medication. However, it is important to note that using the Lamaze breathing techniques, while helping one manage the pain, does not eliminate the pain itself, so using pain medication, when necessary, is not totally out of place.
Lamaze breathing is done in five phases: The laboring mother begins with a cleansing breath, inhales to a count of three to five, or whatever is comfortable to her, then she exhales for the same count, relaxes her jaw and shoulders, inhales in a count of up to four, exhales for the same count, continues this for about 90 seconds, then ends with another cleansing breath. At the start and towards the end of each contraction, the laboring mother does the Cleansing Breath or the Signal Breath which involves deep and slow inhalation through the nose and a slow exhalation through the mouth, so much like the priming up breathing exercises in college P.E. classes. This “signals” to the laboring mother’s spouse or whoever is beside here at the moment of delivery that a contraction has begun and ended.
Next is the Slow Breath, which is actually one’s natural breathing rhythm, only slowed as in sleep, which helps one to relax. It is shallow breathing, where the chest is raised with some effort, but not a deep one that expands and contracts the chest and abdomen. Blowing breath is another shallow and slow breath done while the mother is relaxing between contractions, which are not supposed to be pushed beyond what is bearable to her.
There are strong reasons to believe Lamaze breathing can work and does work, not only because of the testimonies of many laboring mothers, but because, scientifically and psychologically, when indeed one “breathes” through one’s pain, the mind is rendered relaxed and in control, and, though the pain is not totally “breathed away”, it is managed.
Lamaze breathing works wonders even in many hypertensive cases where the person is faced with an unexpected impending blood pressure rise and no blood pressure-stabilizing medication is available. Cleansing breath, slow breath and blowing breath all can greatly assist the patient in keeping his head clear, which is vital in slowing the blood pressure fluctuation until first aid can be had and his life saved.

The Egg’s Edge

Food-to-lose-weight
Eggs seem to be all-present in anyone’s refrigerator since eggs have a lot of uses apart from getting you through breakfast. They are incredibly easy to prepare, widely available and cheap. Though eggs from other birds are also edible, like quail, goose or ostrich the most widely used and consumed are those from chicken. They can be fried, pickled, boiled or incorporated in different dishes as emulsifier or in putting air to a mixture. Others may even eat them raw but this is not advisable as there is risk of the salmonella bacteria in them that is especially dangerous to old people or pregnant women. Besides, you can get more protein from an egg if it’s cooked. Together with fat, this makes eggs a filling meal.
The egg white
The two parts of an egg is basically the yolk or the yellow part and the albumen or egg white. Egg white is the part that is rich in protein but has virtually no cholesterol because it is primarily composed of water. It also has several of the nutrients, like selenium and vitamin B12 that are needed for the formation of cells. But in spite having the most pure form of protein earning them a recommendation for recovering patients, egg whites contain quite a high level of sodium.
The egg yolk
On the other hand, the egg yolk contains reasonably higher calories and cholesterol than the egg white. Also, this is where the fat and most of the nutrients can be found. One of the essential nutrients found in the egg yolk is choline which is vital for the functions of the cardiovascular and nervous system. A serving of egg yolk can provide you with half of the daily requirement of choline.
Reduction of eye diseases
There have been studies about egg consumption potentially reducing occurrence of eye diseases like cataract and macular degeneration. This is due to the lutein and zeaxanthin content of eggs that are great nutrients for the eyes.
One of the few food items that have natural vitamin D is egg. Furthermore, it also has vitamin A that is good for the skin and selenium that protects the cells against oxidation. It also has ample amounts of iodine, calcium, iron and B-vitamins.
Eggs and cholesterol issues
Several years ago, there have been allegations that eating eggs increases the level of cholesterol in the body. However, recent studies have shown that instead of worsening the cholesterol condition, eggs appear to improve it. Basically, there are two types of cholesterol: dietary and blood. The dietary type comes from foods like meat, eggs and dairy product. Blood cholesterol is naturally produced by our body and under this falls the LDL or Low-Density Lipoprotein which is bad for our body. Too much LDL in the blood increases the risk of having heart diseases as it sticks to the wall of the arteries. Eating foods that have dietary cholesterol, like eggs, can decrease the blood cholesterol.
Although a very small occurrence of salmonella infected eggs have been found, you still need to cook the eggs properly and eat them right after. If they won’t be consumed right away, keep them in the refrigerator. Scrambled eggs should not have runny parts and boiled eggs should be cooked over low fire to ensure even cooking even in the interior part. You can also preserve eggs using brine solution which will inhibit the growth of bacteria.
In conclusion, eating two scrambled eggs with your morning toast is not all that bad – if you don’t have cholesterol issues, that is.

The Grapefruit Diet

Staying Healthy
The grapefruit diet has been in its existence for so long that it already gained popularity by word of mouth spread through the success stories as well as the non effectiveness issues. Like any other diet, the grapefruit diet has its own diet plan to follow, how many days to do the diet and what are pros and cons of staying in the diet for a required time. Here are some of the important details you must know about grapefruit diet.
Diet plan
Grapefruit diet will last for fourteen (14) days with two days off if the dieter wanted to continue the diet. Most of the time, 10 pound loss is the promise of the diet. This is a monotonous diet. For breakfast, you should eat 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, 1 cup of black coffee, and one half of the whole grapefruit or 8 ounces unsweetened grapefruit juice. For lunch, you can have unlimited meat, a vegetable salad with dressing and again ½ grapefruit or 8 ounces unsweetened grapefruit juice. For dinner, you can eat green leafy vegetable but don’t go for starchy ones such as peas, beans, corn or sweet potatoes. You can again have unlimited meat and a salad and don’t forget the ½ of a fruit serving of the grapefruit. You can also try drinking 8 ounces unsweetened grapefruit juice for alternative. For your midnight snack or bedtime food, you can have 8 ounces skim milk. Tomorrow, start your day again by eating your breakfast.
Reminders:
Always consume the grapefruit before eating your meal. This is to enhance the fat burning capacity of the fruit. If you want to alternate grapefruit juice into the whole fruit, make sure that the juice is unsweetened. Don’t drink any beverage aside from grapefruit juice and water. As you can see in the sample meal plan above, there are no in between meal snacking. Snacking is only allowed after dinner.
How does grapefruit diet works? How effective it is?
The grapefruit diet is a low carbohydrate, moderate protein diet which is categorized as one of the low calorie diet having an average of 800 to 1000 calories in mostly all versions. When calories are dramatically reduced in any diet, any person using that diet will lose weight. So even with or without consuming grapefruit, you will automatically lose weight when low calorie diet is given to you.
Up to date ,
there are no scientific studies regarding the power of the grapefruit to cause Weight Loss when incorporated in a low calorie diet. But most of the dieters who have tried the grapefruit diet claim to their knowledge that it was the grapefruit that made them loss weight. Little did they know that when a dieter uses a low-carbohydrate and moderate protein diet, she will be losing weight without any more interventions.
Yes, it is true that grapefruit is very nutritious and is loaded with vitamin C
but even science can’t back up the truth about the ability of the fruit to be a fat burner. Thus, what makes the fruit useful in any way with dieters is the property of low glycemic index, high amount of fiber and low calorie nature of the fruit. These properties will be able to decrease the levels of insulin in the blood therefore, making you feel full and the tendency of overeating will be avoided.

Losing Weight Gradually and Its Importance

The goal of losing weight should not be focused into a faster way of achieving it. Instead of making your goal to lose weight make it a goal to stay healthy. Staying healthy is the basis of being happy in life, thus, losing weight is included in the course of being healthy.
You can lose weight in just a week.
This is what is offered by the commercial Weight Loss pills, expensive weight lose program and others commercially advertised for a “magic touch” done in your overweight body. Do you ever wonder if those who have tried this commercially offered weight lose means have ever been happy with the result of their chosen weight lose technique? To tell you honestly, these products promise a fast result but the result will just last for a short term.
The body will start to gain weight again when the program is discontinued after gaining a good result. This is the draw back of many weight lose programs. Because the body had been deprived of many things when under a weight lose program, the body system will look for ways it will destroy the achieved results after some time.

The body needs to be stable first before shifting little by little into other routines that are more complex to do.
With gradual weight lose, you will be able to see the result in a few months of exerting little effort but gaining so much achievement in the body weight you want. Gradually, you lose the unwanted pounds and the body will get used to the foods you take and the activities you perform.
This is the reason why starving yourself just to be on the weight you want is very wrong. Trying to do this is like committing suicide over your own body system.
Losing weight gradually is not difficult to do.
It is rather difficult to train your body in losing weight instantly but also gain weight fast. Experts do recommend that weight lose should be taken easily and not seriously to achieve a more favorable result.
Immediate results of weight lose can bring stress to your body system which can complicate the situation. Protein-rich Soybean and Its Other Side

soybean
Soy is a plant that bears fruit in the form of a pod containing seeds. Those seeds are the ones consumed and used for processing. Parts of the soybean plant are covered with fine hairs, with the flowers situated on the leaf axil. The fruit or pod grows in clumps of three to five, with each pod normally containing two to four small seeds. The soy flowers can be pink, violet or white and they are almost unnoticeable. Before the pods are ripe, the leaves of the soy plant fall off naturally. The soybean pods can have different colors that range from yellow, blue, green and brown to black. The name ‘soy’ came from the Japanese word for soy sauce, ‘shoyu’.
The importance of soybeans was realized during World War II when demands for protein-rich foods are high. Though soybeans are marketed today as all-natural and a particularly excellent source of protein, there have been challenges to its safety. This probably came from the fact that raw soybeans are toxic to humans and they can only be eaten after undergoing extensive processing.
Basically, all legumes have phytic acid or phytates but soybeans arguably have the highest content. This is very harmful because phytates block the absorption of needed minerals like iron, zinc, calcium and magnesium. In addition, soybeans are also found to have enzyme-inhibitors that prevents the body to digest protein properly. Hemagglutinin that stimulates the hemoglobin or red blood cells to form clots is also in soybeans. Once they form clumps, absorbing and distributing oxygen is now difficult for the body. Unfortunately, ordinary cooking cannot eliminate the potentially harmful substances in soybeans. Fermentation, which is done to miso or tempeh, is the only process that can lower the phytate level because of the long chemical process involved.
Textured vegetable protein which is a popular meat extender and commonly used in free food programs gets several harmful substances while under processing. These include carcinogenic nitrites and lysinoalanine. Add to that the artificial flavorings that are incorporated to overpower the natural bland taste of soy and there is really high potential for it to be eaten sparingly. TVP is widely used in many food products especially in third world nations where cheap alternatives are essential.
Laboratory studies using soy flour to rats show a significant increase in the occurrence of pancreatic cancer. Although cooked soy flour has not been found carcinogenic, the application of such studies for humans has yet to be concluded. Meanwhile, surveys done to Asians show that they are in higher risk to particular types of cancer such as thyroid, liver, stomach and esophagus.
Consumption of as little as 2 spoonfuls of soy per day can already affect the production of hormones related to thyroid. The isoflavones in soybeans supposedly cause decrease in hormones that are needed by thyroid. Soy milk is the popular alternative to cow’s milk for those people who are lactose intolerant especially when it comes to infant food. However, the isoflavone content of soy is found to have harmful effects to hormones of children.
Products containing or made from soy usually have an allergen warning on their labels. This is because of the reason that soybean is one of the foods that commonly cause allergic reactions like nuts, eggs or seafoods.
There are controversies attributed to the soybeans being recognized as an all-natural and perfectly safe food item by certain agencies. Apart from several findings, long-term studies assessing the valid effects of soy consumption to humans are still unavailable.

The Potential Benefits of Blackcurrants

BlackCurrents
What is a blackcurrant?
A blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum) is a shrub that thrives even under a cold climate and originally came from Tibet, some four hundred years ago.
Today, they are cultivated in certain parts of Asia and Europe.
The fruits this plant bear are small round ones that have deep purple or almost black color.
Its fruits and leaves are the parts mostly utilized for medicinal or dietary purposes.
Some of the ailments they have been used on earlier are coughs and bladder stones.
However, during the 90’s, blackcurrant farming was banned in the United States because of the plant’s link to a disease of white pine trees,
which greatly affected the logging industries at that time.
Fortunately, the ban was lifted today and only remains on a few selected states like New Hampshire and Maine.
How does a blackcurrant help our body?
A single cup of blackcurrant contains vitamin C that is more than a person needs for a day and four times that of a small orange.
This is highly desirable because ascorbic acid is an essential vitamin our body needs for boosting the immune system and preventing onset of dangerous ailments especially those concerning the cardiovascular system.
These super fruit also has iron, phosphorus and potassium that is twice of that on bananas.
Eating blackcurrants can also reduce the effects of arthritis.
Omega-6 Fatty Acids in Blackcurrants
An essential Omega-6 fatty acid called Gamma-Linoleic Acid (GLA) is yet another asset of blackcurrants.
GLA has anti-inflammatory properties that can prevent several diseases from occurring.
What makes them more special is the fact that GLA is not commonly found in other foods.
The only other known sources of this fatty acid are borage oil and evening primrose.
The dark color of blackcurrants is attributed to the high level of antioxidants present in the fruits.
Anthocyanins and polyphenols are the two antioxidants that can be found in blackcurrants that have a probable effect in reducing risk of having Alzheimer’s or brain disease.
It has many medicinal uses like aiding in digestion, relieving rheumatism or fatigue.
It can also enhance the function of certain organs like pancreas and liver.
According to studies, blackcurrants have the most amounts of antioxidants, followed by other berries and pomegranates.
The blackcurrant berries can be eaten fresh or preserved, in the form of jams, jelly, syrup or even in wine.
But because certain beneficial substances in blackcurrants are sensitive,
the manufacturers take careful measures so the antioxidants and other nutrition of the fruit remain intact.
There are also practical uses of blackcurrants when processed into other forms like the following:
The leaves can be made into tea by soaking them in boiled water or juice together with the fruits.
This extract from blackcurrant can also be used as a cure for sore throats through using it as a throat wash.
For wounds, boiled blackcurrant leaves can also used as a dressing.
For a more convenient application,
you can make topical cream from the blackcurrant fruits mixed with sugar and kept aside for several months.
This can be used to treat skin diseases like insect bites or eczemas.
For people who are weak because of illness or fatigue,
blackcurrant syrup can serve as a food supplement and speed up energy recovery.
Make a paste out of the fresh fruit and take in about 5 tablespoons every two to three hours.

The Sweet Benefits of Honey

Honey
Basically from the flower nectars, honey is the food for bees which they exhaustingly produce in their colony.
Bees suck nectar from flowers then process it inside their bodies with the use of different enzymes; this process is called regurgitation. The final product is then stored in the honeycombs and stripped of water content through their wings’ fluttering. This way, the sugar concentration is increased, enabling the honey to last long in its original state. Beekeepers drive the worker bees to overproduce the honey so they can get the excess and still leave enough for the colony to survive.
This sweet produce from bees has long been used as a food source,
healing substance and even considered precious at some time. It is not surprising because apart from the fact that it does not go bad for years, it contains a lot of nutrients such as iron, manganese and B-vitamins. Honey is a high-calorie food item but consists of simple sugars, fructose and glucose. Many studies have been made regarding honey and its potential Health benefits like the following:
-
Immunity booster.
Antioxidants abound in honey which aids in countering free radicals and possibly slow down the rate of aging. Free radicals can be found everywhere and enter the body everytime we breathe. The antioxidants like polyphenols are the ones which neutralize the harmful free radicals and protect the body.
-
Source of energy.
It is a great energy source as it provides around 60 calories in just one tablespoon. And compared to table sugar that is widely used today, it can easily be digested by the stomach and will not put you in risk of diabetes. Honey is even used by some athletes also because of its ability to regulate muscle glycogen that enables them to recuperate efficiently.
-
Potential weight loss.
Although it is known that honey packs more calories than ordinary sugar, it can still promote Weight Loss through aiding in digestion and dissolving fat. You can try eating it with warm water or lemon juice. Furthermore, it has enzymes and friendly bacteria that is highly desirable in the digestive system.
-
Regulating blood sugar.
Because of having a very sweet taste, honey is often thought of as a food that promotes diabetes. But actually, it is quite the opposite – unlike sugar, honey may just aid in regulating blood sugar. The glucose and fructose content of honey is essential in the optimal functioning of the liver. Fructose triggers the production of an enzyme in the liver that is responsible for absorption of glucose into glycogen (the form of sugar when stored in the muscles and liver). Sufficient amount of glycogen is vital so the brain gets enough energy to use during sleep or exercise. Conversely, inadequate glycogen stimulates the release of stress hormones just to convert the protein in the muscles into glucose.
-
Cough treatment.
Children’s coughing fits can be alleviated by taking honey just before bedtime, particularly the buckwheat variety. It was even found that it is better than over-the-counter medicines in treating coughs and sore throats.
-
Skin-friendly.
Manufacturers of skin products also incorporate honey in their skin care lines because of its minerals and vitamins that keep the skin hydrated. In addition, honey also stimulates shedding of dead skin cells while promoting develep of new ones. Honey has been found effective in topical uses as it has antibacterial properties and speeds up the healing of a wound. This is because it has the ability to suck the bacteria dry through osmosis.
Moreover, further growth of bacteria is made improbable because of the very low water content of honey that makes it unsuitable for them to breed. Applying honey as dressing to a wound can also avoid the spread of any infection to other areas. However, be careful not to mix water with pure honey as it will increase the water content and effectively render the antimicrobial property useless.
Craving for sweet foods is really natural especially because sugar fuels our body. That’s why honey is a great substitute for table sugar as a food additive and supplement as the sugar it contains is easily absorbed by the body.

How to Prepare a Healthy and Fun Lunch for Kids

weight-loss-diets
Your kid deserves the best nutrition especially in his formative years. While in school, he should be eating the right food that could help build muscles and carry out the normal processes in his body. Even with a busy schedule, you should take time to prepare your kid’s lunch. Relying on the school’s food cafeteria is not an assurance that your kid will buy the right food choices. Preparing your kid’s lunch is your weapon in the fight for obesity as it was observed that more kids in the US are becoming obese because of poor food choices. Your challenge now would be in selecting the appropriate food groups that can arouse your kid’s attention as well.
Choose an efficient and attractive lunchbox.
Choose one that are well insulated and are made of different compartments for a variety of foods. The lunchbox should be durable enough to accommodate hot foods for a longer period of time. Some moms separate sandwiches from the rest by packing them in brown papers. They are easy to be torn and convenient than napkins. Freezer packs and freezer bottles can retain the coldness of deserts and fruits to make them appealing until lunch time. You can keep all hot and cold foods in insulated bags—some of them are stylish and fun to look at.
Put new ideas on the usual sandwich.
Generally, kids love sandwiches. Put a little magic on your sandwich by adding meat, fish, tuna and vegetable bits. Your kids may get bored with the usual mayonnaise spread thus you should also try experimenting on other spreads and fruit jams. Add other foods to go with the sandwich like cashew nuts, cheese sticks, dried raisins, whole wheat biscuits, cole slaw, slice ham, slice cheese, carrots, apples, oranges, a banana, grapes, melon chunks among others. Choose add-ons that your kids. Experiment and observe which among them that he always looks for. Add other sources of protein like a slice turkey, home made noodles or a personally-prepared fruit salad. Always go for fresh and not canned fruits.
Add color to your kid’s lunch with fruits and vegetable toppings.
Presentation really matters in your kid’s lunch. Remember, kids have short attention span and may change their minds immediately after seeing an uninviting lunch. Choose fruits and vegetables that are in different shapes and sizes. Cut them in strips, squares and other fun shapes.
Garnish your kid’s lunch with other fun finger foods.
Garnishes add color and volume to your kid’s lunch. They can also add variety to the main food. Oranges, cole slaw, lettuce and blueberries are good to look at. Make sure that the garnish also contributes and not destroy the overall taste of the food.
Reinforce your kid if he finishes his lunch.
Rewards, in the form of money, new toys or clothes will remain in your kid’s memory and will make him look forward to his next lunch. Most kids, these days, are not fish and vegetable lovers. Thus, these rewards may help them encourage to try these foods during lunch.

How to Achieve a Bodybuilder’s Body

weight-loss-solutions
Despite aging, everybody still wanted to look sexy and attractive. For men, sexy means having a toned and firm body just like a body builder. But, as the old saying goes “No pain, no gain”, a body builder’s body was not made in just one night. It takes enough knowledge and great effort to achieve lean muscles and sexy body like that of bodybuilders.
For beginners,
it is important to have a meaningful knowledge of the techniques in gaining your desired body the faster way. Included here are tips from experts such as gym instructors. I must say, that seeking professional help is the very basic step you should take for you to be taught of the proper execution of techniques.
Basically, body building techniques are usually executed in a gym.
Weight trainings are the focus of these workouts. Or you can invest in gym equipment and secure membership. Along with this preparation, proper clothing must be given attention, too. While most bodybuilders do not wear shirts, it’s more appropriate and well mannered to wear at least a shirt. However, keep it just enough so it will not be too loose or too fit. It must not restrict your freedom to do any type of movement.
Plan before you start the sequence of workout.
Never go to the gym just randomly thinking of the sequence and procedures of the workout. Ask your gym instructor to provide workout plans which include sequence and number of sets and repetition.
Bring things that you might need such as water, penny and extra clothing. Water must be sufficient so as to avoid dehydration caused by excessive sweating. Also, bring extra clothing which you need to use after working out. Bring more penny with you in case of minor emergency, too.
During the proper workout, weight trainings must be properly executed.
Otherwise, it may result to nothing or worst may cause accidents. It’s advisable to start with lesser weight in order to avoid injuring your muscles. Never use weight equipments that are too heavy because it might put significant pressure on your bones and muscles. Instead, warm up with the use of lighter weights. In due time, you will need to lift those heavy weights so there’s no need to rush.
Unfortunately, you cannot build muscles unless your body contains less fat.
Simply stated, aerobic exercises are still part of the work out routines because it’s only exercise and not the weight training that can burn off fats. Perhaps, you need to incorporate an hour of aerobic exercises such as running, brisk walking, swimming and walking in a treadmill to your daily routines.
In order to achieve faster result, lifestyle change is greatly encouraged.
Proper eating habits are also required. In order to get more muscle mass, it’s a need to increase protein intake found in lean meat, milk, fish, chicken and the like. Proper amount of calorie intake is also required. It lies on the principle regarding the amount of calorie dissolved by the body, where it says that calorie intake must not be greater than the amount of fats that can be dissolved by the body.
On the other hand, fat intake is a big no-no as it would only make your workout ineffective and useless. Adequate sleep is also needed to maintain higher metabolism and restore lost energy due to intense physical activity. Vices must be eliminated as well, for they have no part in body building.
Although it takes a lot of time and effort, body building has satisfying and rewarding results. Green eyes of envy from other men and admiration from other women are what you can primarily expect upon having a body builder’s body.

3 Day Diet Reviews Which One Works Best

Tips On staying Healthy And Fit
These 3 day diet reviews are intended to help you find the best program to lose weight the fastest.
These diets have been around for years, and there’s not usually a huge difference between one diet and the other, but that doesn’t mean they all work exactly the same.
The general purpose of these diets is to lose weight as quickly as possible over a short period of time. You could think of them as sprints rather than the usual marathon of long term dieting. Like sprints, they can’t and shouldn’t be maintained for the long term, something to keep in mind when reading these 3 day diet reviews.
These diets are all low calorie, and some of them are very low calorie. They tend to be low carbohydrate, whether they intend to be or not, simply by virtue of the low calories. As a rule, the more starchy foods allowed, the lower the calories are going to be.
The main differences in the diets we’re looking at in these 3 day diet reviews is the kinds of foods you’re allowed.
They all tend to restrict carbohydrates because this causes you to lose water weight quickly. Combined with the rest of the diet, this leads to rapid weight loss.
The Mayo Clinic Diet
This is by far the most popular of the diets we’ll be looking at in these 3 day diet reviews, and is also known as the grapefruit diet, because every meal is preceded by eating half of a large grapefruit.
The overall diet tends to focus on eating meat and vegetables with fruit in the form of the grapefruit. For the most part, portion size isn’t limited, but you can’t have bread or dairy. The grapefruit causes you to eat less, so you’re able to eat to satisfaction without feeling like you’re not eating.
If you’re a big fan of breads and sweets, you’re going to find that this diet is the most effective but probably the most difficult of the diets to do. Nevertheless, it is very good for its intended purpose.
Cleveland Clinic Diet
This diet is the most calorie restrictive of the three diets in these 3 day diet reviews, but it also has the biggest variety of food. You get to eat bread, peanut butter and cheese, as well as ice cream, but the amounts you get to eat are very small.
If you’re a taste oriented person rather than someone who is more concerned with having a full belly, this is probably going to be the best of the diets we’re looking at in these 3 day diet reviews for you. Because of the extremely low calories, it is very important you don’t exceed the three days limit.
Tuna and Water Diet
The most extreme of the diets looked at in these 3 day diet reviews, this is exactly what it sounds like. For three days, you eat as much water packed tuna as you like, along with drinking as much water as you can handle.
The upside of this diet is that it is the fastest way to lose weight. The downsides, though, are numerous. Most people won’t be able to handle eating this limited variety even for three days, and you cannot, under any circumstances, do this for more than three days without risking Health consequences.
Hopefully, these 3 day diet reviews will help you pick the diet that is best for your personality and your goals.
This kind of diet isn’t for everyone, and it’s important you pick a method that will work for you.

3 Day Diet Info What You Need To Know To Lose Weight

Tips On staying Healthy And Fit
There’s a lot of 3 day diet info out there, but it tends to be contradictory and self defeating.
Fortunately, the basic 3 day diet info is pretty simple to explain, and this article will give you the low down. The point of most of the three day diets is to lose weight as quickly as possible, and most of them are pretty good at it, so what you need to do is find the diet that is right for you.
A major appeal of three day diets is that they only last three days so the limited variety of options usually isn’t a problem, most people can do three days of any diet. Once you have the proper 3 day diet info, you can start on the diet and begin losing weight immediately.
You will find the Mayo Clinic Three Day Diet is most popular of the diets,
and there is loads of 3 day diet info out there pertaining to it. Also known as the Grapefruit Diet, the diet has you eating half a grapefruit before each meal.
This diet also limits carbohydrates, with most the food coming from meat, vegetables and eggs. This, combined with the grapefruit, results in a rapid loss of water and bloat, so you can lose as much as six pounds over the course of the three days. This is the best diet for people who like to eat a lot, but don’t mind a limited variety.
The Cleveland Clinic Diet is very similar to the Mayo Clinic diet in that it consists of a short three day period where you consume a low carbohydrate low calorie diet.
It’s different in that it omits the grapefruit and allows to you to have things like toast, peanut butter and ice cream.
However the downside to the greater variety is that calories are much more restricted. So while you get to eat a lot more things, you get to eat very little of them If you’re a person who loves having a full belly and doesn’t deal with hunger, then this may not be the diet for you.
3 day diet info for the Tuna and water Diet tends to be the sketchiest of all.
There are basically two versions of this diet. The more common, and much easier to follow, version is to have tuna and salad at each meal, only with large amounts of water.
Another version is just tuna and water, and this will give you the most Weight Loss of all the three day diets. It is also the hardest to follow, and is the one you absolutely must do properly. Both versions will result in rapid weight loss, and require a tolerance for bland food.
If you want to look young the Perricone Diet is one that there is very little 3 day diet info on, because while it is a diet with a three day duration, it’s much different than the others mentioned in this article. Designed by world famous dermatologist Dr. Nicholas Perricone, the diet is designed around foods that are anti-inflammatory, causing you to look younger and, as a side effect, lose weight.
There are a lot of diets out, but with this 3 day diet info, you’ll be equipped to make the right decision about which diet is for you.

An Obese Person Has Health Risks

Obesity At Large
An obese person faces more Health risks than a person of average weight.
Being that overweight can cause issues like difficulty finding clothes that fit and even sometimes difficulty fitting into seats in places like airplanes and theaters. An obese person also is at much higher risk of things like heart attack and stroke.
An obese person is generally someone who is more than 40 to 75 pounds overweight. A person is considered morbidly obese if they weight 100 pounds or more what they should. Both of these conditions carry elevated Health risks.
When you’re obese, your body is carrying more weight than it was designed to carry.
This puts extra pressure on bones, muscles and joints. If you think about how much harder it is to carry a sack full of 50 pounds than it is to carry one with 5 pounds, it’s easier to see the burden put on your frame.
Because bones are strong and rugged, the extra weight takes its toll on the weakest part of your frame: the joints. Joints like hips, ankles and knees are at particular risk, because the weight of the entire upper body falls up on them.
Joints are naturally our bodies’ weakest spots because they’re the spots where the bones come together. The knees are at a particular risk in an obese person. The knee is a very complex joint that faces wear and tear with every single step we take.
When someone is obese, there’s much more pressure on the knees than normal. So each step puts twice, triple, sometimes four times the normal pressure or more on those joints. This causes the joints to wear out prematurely and is the reason heavy people often have trouble with their knees.
While hips joints and ankles are at this same risk, it’s the knees that generally carry the brunt of the weight and absorb the pressure, so this is where the injuries often appear first.
Aside from the extra weight on the frame and joints, all that extra weight puts pressure on the body’s systems, too. First of all, large amounts of body fat don’t just show up on the outside, but fatty tissue can form internally around organs.
And large amounts of body fat can actually crowd internal organs and put pressure against them. This pressure can cause the organs to start operating differently, and can interfere with normal bodily functions.
Because the extra weight requires more work of the body to keep going, often blood pressure is elevated and the heart has to work harder than normal. This can be a factor in heart disease, heart attacks and strokes.
Also, the extra weight generally means that the person’s diet is poor and too high in calories. This is a major cause of diabetes, which can damage blood vessels, eyes and nerves.
In some cases, people may lose their eyesight or a foot or leg to diabetes because of poor circulation. The good news is that once an obese person starts losing weight, diabetes and other conditions can be reversed.

Adding Aerobic Exercise To Your Day

Tips On Staying Healthy And Fit
Aerobic exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle.
If you are looking to include exercise in your life to improve your health, lose weight and prevent disease, you should seek an exercise program that is enjoyable and fun for you. The key to exercise and its positive benefits is consistency.
You should seek an exercise that you could do every day for the greatest benefits to your health. Many people find that including a variety of aerobic exercise in their daily routine is also a great way to stay motivated and interested. For many people finding one type of exercise that they enjoy is enough to keep them going day after day, but others may become bored and need something new to spice things up a little bit.
Finding a good selection of exercise types will help overcome this problem.
An aerobic exercise must increase your heart rate for at least twenty minutes to be considered beneficial.
Brisk walking can be included as long as it increases your heart rate and you are able to sustain it for twenty minutes or longer. Running is a sure fire way to get your heart rate up to aerobic levels, but it can be difficult for some to do if they have not exercised for a while. Starting off with a brisk walk is a good way to gradually build into a plan that includes running or jogging. Many people decide to stick with the walking because it is less stressful on the joints.
Bicycling is an excellent aerobic exercise that is very enjoyable for many people. You should be sure that you are following a difficult enough route to be sure that you reach the correct heart rate during this type of exercise. Coasting on your bike will not increase your heart rate and could cause it to decline while you are working out.
A stationary bike or a treadmill is one way that you can keep track of your heart rate while you are exercising. Many of these home aerobic exercise machines will monitor your heart rate, calories burned and miles completed during the workout. For those who are looking for improvement in their workout, these machines are a great way to see your improvement over time.
The key to gaining all of the Health benefits that you can achieve with exercise is consistency. Health conditions that respond well to the introduction of exercise include heart disease, diabetes, obesity and many more. Your body will look better and more importantly you will feel better.
Exercise, particularly aerobic exercise, is a great way to increase your energy levels during the day. If you find that you get tired halfway through your workday, take a walk at lunch or start off your day with a brisk walk to get your day off to a great start. Eating a healthy diet along with exercise is the one true fountain of youth. It can help you look and feel younger for a longer period of time and it is never to late to get started on your exercise routine.

Appetite Suppressant Diet Eat The Right Foods To Curb Your Hunger

Tips On Staying Healthy And Fit
Did you know that you can structure the way you eat to in fact have an appetite suppressant diet?
You don’t have to take potions or pills in order to curb your hunger. You just have to eat the right foods at the right times.
That, in fact, is the key to the appetite suppressant diet.
Processed foods tend to be high in refined carbohydrates and low in fiber. When you eat a donut or drink a soda, you will have dramatic swings in your blood sugar levels. This causes a hunger spike. So, while you may grab a candy bar from the vending machine in the middle of the afternoon to curb a hunger pang, you may actually be causing yourself to become hungrier shortly thereafter.
If you have common nutritional deficiencies, these problems become worse. Did you know that virtually all Americans are deficient in zinc, vitamin D, various B vitamins, magnesium and other important nutrients? People have these deficiencies as a result of eating the wrong mix of foods. But, most people with these deficiencies satisfy their hunger with more of the bad foods, making the problem even worse.
So what should you eat on an appetite suppressant diet?
What you want to do is get your calories from whole foods. In other words, shop around the outside of the grocery store and don’t go down the middle isles.
Aviod all refined carbohydrates such as white bread, rice, flour, high fructose corn syrup, sugars, tortillas, and cereals for a month and see how the appetite suppressant diet changes your hunger patterns.
This does not mean that you have to go on a low-carb diet. You are still permitted to have the carbohydrates found in most fruits and vegetables in unlimited quantities.
Plan to eat a salad of leafy greens each day.
You can use an olive oil or vinegar based dressing. Add meats such as chicken or grilled salmon to make it a meal.
When you just need something to munch on, try pickles. An entire jar of pickles has only 50 calories in it.
An apple a day keeps the diet away.
Their bulky fiber makes apples great appetite suppressant diet foods.
When you start to add a variety of fruits and vegetables to your diet, you will also get the variety of vitamins and minerals you need. As you correct your nutritional deficits, you will notice your hunger diminishes.
Finally, you should start to drink a good amount of water each day.
Men should have 13 cups (8 ounces) of water based liquids each day while women should shoot for 9 cups. If you don’t like plain water, iced tea, sugar free punch mixes, and other drinks count. But, soda has a dehydrating effect which is the exact opposite of what you want, so it doesn’t count.
It is possible to have an appetite suppressant diet. It just means filling your pantry and refrigerator with foods that are good for you rather than going for the quick and easy solution of processed foods high in refined carbohydrates.

3 Day Chemical Breakdown Diet Right Foods Equal Shed Pounds

Tips On staying healthy and Fit
The idea behind a 3 day chemical breakdown diet is to use the proper combination of food to lose weight as quickly as possible.
Which sounds like a lovely idea, but there are a lot of questions as to whether the combination of foods has anything to do with it.
There are scientists on both sides of the fence about the 3 day chemical breakdown diet. Some believe that the proper combination of foods creates a mix of enzymes that optimizes fat loss. Other believe that since food is broken down to its most basic combination before entering the bloodstream, the exact combination of foods used in the 3 day chemical breakdown diet is irrelevant.
Generally speaking, claims of as much as six to ten pounds lost on the 3 day chemical breakdown diet are not uncommon. There’s no question that the diet will absolutely cause you to lose weight quickly, it’s just the reasons why that are in question.
There are three reasons that the 3 day chemical breakdown diet will help you lose weight,
even if the idea that a specific mix of chemicals in food will help you lose weight. One, it’s very high in fiber compared to most diets, which will help clean out your gut. Two, even with the ice cream and peanut butter, the 3 day chemical breakdown diet is low in carbohydrates, which will cause you to lose water weight. And third, it’s low in calories, which will help you lose fat.
The usual menu for the 3 day chemical breakdown diet looks like this:
Day One
Breakfast
½ of a whole grapefruit or 4 ounces of grapefruit juice, unsweetened
1 slice of toast with a teaspoon of peanut butter
Lunch
1/2 cup of water packed tuna
1 slice of toast
Dinner
A quarter pound of any meat
1 cup of string beans
1 cup of carrots, cooked or raw
1 small apple
1 cup of vanilla ice cream
Day Two
Breakfast
1 hard-boiled egg
1 slice of toast with a teaspoon of peanut butter
or
1/2 Banana with a teaspoon of peanut butter
Lunch
1 cup of cottage cheese
5 plain crackers
Dinner
2 hot dogs
1 cup of cauliflower
1/2 cup of carrots, cooked or raw
or
1/2 banana
1 cup of vanilla ice cream
Day Three
Breakfast
1 hard-boiled egg
1 slice of toast
I piece of cheddar cheese
Lunch
1 slice of cheddar cheese
5 plain crackers
1 small apple
Dinner
1 cup of water packed tuna
1 cup of beets
1 cup green beans
1 cup cantaloupe
1 cup of vanilla ice cream
As you can see, the diet is high in vegetables and low in starches, which makes it a fairly healthy diet.
The only real problem with the 3 day chemical breakdown diet is that it’s very low in calories, usually less 1,000 per day, which makes it unsafe to stay on long term. But for quick Weight Loss over the short term, the 3 day chemical breakdown diet is one of the best available.

3 Great Abdominal Exercises For Obese People

Tips On Staying Healthy And Fit
Heavier people need to do special abdominal exercises for obese people to avoid injury.
Many of the popular exercises people do today are too much for someone not in shape. Some abdominal exercises for obese people are even especially designed for those who have trouble standing for long periods or getting up and down from the floor.
Because some obese people have special exercise needs, abdominal exercises for obese people that they can do while sitting are ideal. Sitting exercises are less likely to put strain on joints like the knees. An obese person may already put a lot of pressure on their knees, so low impact exercises are best.
The first sitting exercise may seem like a very easy one.
But for some obese people it’s enough to start them down the road to getting healthier. And when done regularly, this exercise will start to tighten and tone the muscles of anyone who does it. It’s good for thin people and obese people, as well.
Sit in a chair and keep your back straight—don’t slouch. If you have hand weights or dumbbells, then you can hold them in front of your chest. If not, you can hold a can of soup in each can, or start out without anything at all.
Hold your abdominal muscles in and slowly turn your upper torso to the right, while keeping your hips firmly planted on the chair and facing forward. Use your stomach muscles to turn your body back to the center position. Do the same thing now, going left. Start out just doing 12 to each side and build up. The heavier the weights you hold, the more it works the muscles.
Another of the great abdominal exercises for obese people is simply to sit in the chair and lean over like you’re going to touch your toes.
Make it a small movement, don’t lunge forward, and slowly draw back up. Make sure you’re using your stomach muscles and not your back.
You can also do these a little to the side to work the sides of your tummy. Just instead of leaning straight forward, turn your torso lightly and go straight down a little to your right, then back up. Once you’re raised, then turn and go down a little to your left. Slowly raise back up.
You can also cycle through all of them for the best results. Go straight down, to the left, to the center, to the right, then back to the center. Do these until you’ve done the center one 12 times, then build as you get stronger.
Another great exercise if you can lie down on the floor on your back is to do simple leg lifts.
Bend your knees then straighten one leg. Raise that leg straight up several times, then switch. This tones the neglected lower stomach.
These are some of the best abdominal exercises for obese people that don’t take long to do, but if you do them every day you’ll see a difference.

3 Day Heart Diet Can You Find Health And Weightloss In Just 3 Days

Tips On Staying Healthy And Fit
The 3 day heart diet is a diet that is said to have been developed specifically for heart patients.
There are various versions of where the diet is supposed to have come from, with the Mayo Clinic, the Cleveland Clinic and the American Heart Association all having been credited at one point or another as being the point of origin.
All three of the organizations mentioned have publicly denied being the place where the 3 day heart diet originated, but that has done little to curb its popularity. Despite the name, the diet’s name appeal isn’t to cardiac patients, but to people trying to lose weight as quickly as possible.
The 3 day heart diet is supposed to have been used to prepare heart patients for surgery,
allowing them to lose the bloat and water retention that would put extra stress on the heart. This automatically caused weight loss, so the diet, according to the stories, became very popular.
Regardless of the origin of the 3 day heart diet, it will indeed cause you to lose weight quickly. The average person can expect to lose six pounds over the course of the diet, and people that are larger can lose even more, with up to ten pounds being a possibility.
This kind of Weight Loss is possible because the low calories nature of the diet means that it is also low carb and low bulk.
These two things mean that you will lose a substantial amount of water weight as well as clearing out any excess material from your guts. Combined with a likely pound of two of actual fat loss, this accounts for most of the weight lost on the 3 day heart diet.
Generally speaking, there is a set type and amount of food for each meal of the diet, and this changes from day to day. The variety makes it easier to follow, but this is a very low calorie plan, so staying on it for more than the three days allotted is not recommended.
For breakfast, the 3 day heart diet looks like this
Day One
½ of a whole grapefruit or 4 ounces of grapefruit juice, unsweetened
1 slice of toast with a teaspoon of peanut butter
Tea or coffee, if you want it, no dairy
Day Two
1 hard-boiled egg
1 slice of toast
1/2 Banana
Tea or coffee, if you want it, no dairy
Day Three
1 hard-boiled egg
1 slice of toast
Tea or coffee, if you want it, no dairy
For lunch you’ll be eating:
Day One
1/2 cup of water packed tuna
1 slice of toast
Day Two
1 cup of cottage cheese
5 saltine type crackers
Day Three
1 slice of cheddar cheese
5 saltine type crackers
1 small apple
For dinner, the 3 day heart diet menu looks like this:
Day One
A quarter pound of any meat
1 cup of string beans
1 cup of carrots, cooked or raw
1 small apple
1 cup of vanilla ice cream
Day Two
2 hot dogs
1 cup of broccoli
1/2 cup of carrots, cooked or raw.
1/2 banana
1 cup of vanilla ice cream
Day Three
1 cup of water packed tuna
1 cup of beets
1 cup green beans
1 cup cantaloupe
1 cup of vanilla ice cream
On the 3 day heart diet, you are not to use any kind of spice or additive except for salt and pepper.
It is not recommended because of the low calories that you stay on it for more than three consecutive days.
For best results, alternate the 3 day heart diet with four days of higher calories eating to avoid slowing your metabolism.

5 Tips About Best Diet To Lose Belly Fat

Tips On Staying Healthy And Fit
Are you looking for a diet to lose belly fat? Here are five tips that can help you.
Remember that the key to having a flat stomach is to lose the amount of fat you have overall. The stomach fat is just the last to go, so it’s the toughest. Here’s a diet to lose belly fat.
First of all, you need to eat more fiber.
The major reason women are getting fatter these days is that they do not have enough fiber in their diets. As we eat more processed foods and less whole grains and produce, the natural fibers in our diet are becoming scarcer. An average person should try to get at least 25 grams of fiber per day. People who are serious about a diet to lose belly fat should get 35 grams of fiber.
Secondly, realize that carbs aren’t the devil that some diets make them out to be,
but too many calories from carbohydrates can increase your middle mass. Carbohydrates should make up no more than 60 percent of your calories when you are on a diet to lose belly fat. But, make sure that they are at least 45 percent of your diet. As you can see, balance is the key here. Most of your carbs should come from fruits and vegetables and you should avoid high carb, empty calorie foods like cupcakes.
Third, drink your water.
Many people mistakenly believe that drinking a lot of water will give them puffy abs. But, water actually flushes sodium out of your system which reduces puffiness. Here’s a couple of ways to tell if you have enough water. Are you thirsty? Then you are already dehydrated. Don’t ever lack water so long that you feel it. Another way is to monitor the color of your urine. If you’re drinking enough water, your urine will be close to colorless.
Fourth, limit your sodium intake as it leads to puffiness.
A woman only needs 500 mg. of sodium a day for the body’s natural functions to work. But the average American woman gets up to 6,000 grams! A Chinese take out entry can have 3000 grams by itself. You can limit your sodium by choosing fresh, natural foods. That’s one way to be on a diet to lose belly fat.
Fifth, have a small dinner and shut the kitchen down afterwards.
Having your calories during the day when you are actually burning them is key to losing weight. Evening eating is often mindless eating. You sit down in front of the television with a brand new bag of chips and before you know it, half the bag is gone. Another benefit of eating light at night is that you’ll wake up hungry for a good breakfast. People who eat good breakfasts are more likely to lose weight.
If you are wondering how to get a flat stomach, monitor what you are eating.
When you eat healthy, natural foods, you are going to develop the body you want. And, that’s the guidelines for a diet to lose belly fat.
